I have to admit, the title is what made me want to read this book. And…it took me for fricken ever to get through it. Not because it was boring. The author is actually pretty darn humorous..however, this book was pretty much my attitude about life - when I am feeling bitchy. Girl power. Laugh at penises. Men are dogs. And dumb.

Like I said, it was funny. There was some good advice for getting your head out of your ass if you happen to be a spineless waif. Other than that….Boring with a capital B.

I am giving this one 2 crowns just because it did make me laugh at points. Humor is always good.

I was quite excited when I heard that I was selected for the Dangerous Days of DanielX book tour. Excited for myself and Des. We are normally a family of readers. I literally read everything that I can get my hands on. Reading faster if the topic is interesting. Des used to be this way too. The problem is, he is now 12. There isn’t much out there that will hold his attention for very long. Free reading in our house for him has now focused on various gaming magazines. I can’t say that I am upset. At least he is reading right? Dangerous Days of DanielX changed all of that.

As an experienced and brilliant mom, I knew that I couldn’t shove a book at my boy and demand that he read it. No matter how “cool” I claimed that it was - he would do anything to not read that book. So…I decided to read it myself first. I am happy to say that my plot worked. The first day at Bug’s piano class was all it took. Des saw me engrossed, started reading over my shoulder, next thing I know, he was taking the book out of my hands and flopping down on a couch to read it himself. It took him a total of 3 days to finish. Not bad for a kid who couldn’t find anything to get engrossed in huh?

I did wind up reading the book myself. It was a fun yet “icky” read. Lots of aliens and guts and spaceships and 12 year old boy kind of stuff. I can see why it was such a hit with Des.

I love James Patterson books. I hope that my kids can grow to love him as well. If he keeps up with the DanielX type books, I can’t imagine that it won’t be.

In keeping with my Queenie book rating scale - I give Dangerous Days of DanielX a whopping 5 crowns.

No Humans Involved - Kelley Armstrong

I have to admit, I am addicted to Kelley Armstrong. This title isn’t part of her Women of the Otherworld series but is equally as yummy as far as I am concerned.

The story comes from the viewpoint of Jamie Vegas, a necromancer that is in show business. She just gets her break to film a series that she thinks will lead to her ultimate dream - her own TV show when she finds herself wound up in a conspiracy and murder plot. The group responsible has itself wound into the media, the police and even show business.

It gets scary and hairy real quick. The plot is ever evolving. The story is laced with adventure, humor and love. Even better than the great storyline, Jaime’s love interest is none other than Jeremy, the alpha of the werewolf pack that is the focus of the Otherworld series.

I couldn’t put this one down once I started it. For that alone, I give it 5 crowns. A must read again from Armstrong.

Are You a Whiner?

I have recently joined a national campaign to change the world. It sounds super heroish, I know, however, I can assure you that it is a small yet difficult movement. I am attempting to stop complaining. Sounds simple doesn’t it? It’s not. *hold please while I move my bracelet*

My entire family is now wearing rubber purple bracelets. On the bracelets is says AComplaintFreeWorld.org. These were given to me free of charge by this program. All I had to do was agree to join the movement and then pay for shipping. This campaign has changed my way of thinking. I realize how much of a pissy assed whiner I was. I also realized how much I hate that behavior. I also am taking steps to rid myself of that negativeness. Strike up one for the royal one.

I read about this through the book “A Complaint Free World“. It’s a program designed to teach you how to recognize complaining behavior and how bad it is for you on a mental, emotional and physical level. That’s right, I said that complaining is bad for you physically. Think about it…what is your mood when you complain? Not happy right? That means your body, when you complain is not producing those happy inducing endorphins. The same ones that ya get when you have sex. Hmmmmm.

The book is what really opened my eyes to how much I was complaining. It really spelled it all out there for me. Then, I ordered our wristbands. The wristbands are the key to making you realize just HOW MUCH you complain. The idea is that you wear the wristband. When you catch yourself complaining, you switch the wristband from one wrist to the other. This makes you consciously aware of what you say. Goddess knows that I like to run off at the mouth and I do that without thinking sometimes. Ahem. So….I took the challenge. I hope some of you will decide to as well.

You don’t need the book to do this. You don’t even need the bracelet to do it. I used a rubber band until my pretty purple wristband arrived. If you decide that you want more info though, I have the book and the wristbands linked up in this post and in my amazon store. And here is a link to the web site: A Complaint Free World.org

21 days to make a habit right? I think I can do it. My family is participating too. Can you imagine if everyone made this pledge? How happy a world we would live in. A Queenie can dream can’t she?

PS - In case you were wondering, this is NOT a paid post. I wrote this because I believe in it. Yes, I am doing it. Yes, I think you should too.

Another Kelley Armstrong read and this woman has yet to let me down. The women of the underworld series is feeding my love for witches, demons, and werewolves perfectly.

Dime Store Magic carries on with the story line from Elena and Clay, the werewolves. The supernaturals were held captive by a sorcerer in a compound where he was trying to breed a super species of human. Few escaped in the last book. Paige was one of them. Her new ward, Savahanna was another. Both are witches.

Paige has just recently been given the power of leader of her coven. A job that the rest of her coven doesn’t think she is ready for. Paige is struggling to prove herself while she tries to find a way to move her coven into the next century. She also is experiencing life as a parental figure for Savahanna, an orphan witch whose mother has a reputation for black magic. It’s not always a pretty picture that these two have but one worth reading.

I give this one 5 crowns. One of my favorites so far from the series.
