Should I Ignore It?

Posted by Queenie 8 October, 2008

This past week, I have been examining my exercise routine. Well, more like my lack of one. I work out at TKD but I know that I should be doing more in order to hit my final goal by my target date. My friend took me to a spinning class a month or so ago. The next day, I got the flu. I am not blaming the illness on the class. I am, however, wondering if my bod was just screaming at me that maybe spinning wasn’t my cup of tea. I really don’t know. I had a blast at the class. I kept my legs moving the entire time. I couldn’t do many of the arm exercises though due to my bad shoulders. I sweat my ass off and then could barely move my legs for almost a week. Was that the flu screaming or my bod rebelling against spinning?

I was doing the Couch 2 5K program last year. Until I hurt my knees. Then I quit that too. Again wondering if my bod was just trying to tell me something…or if I was just being a big ole wuss. I am really feeling the urge to step things up in my work outs. I just don’t know how much to push. For god sake, I played freeze tag with the kids at park group on Tuesday and thought I was going to keel over and die. I don’t like being reminded that I am not 16 anymore. Am I ready to commit to spinning/torture 3 times per week?

Life was so much easier when I could just shake the Magic 8 ball and trust the words on the block.

Spin baby spin, I sure could use a partner. I don’t do all the stuff they do, but I do what I can. Just as long as you are jamming to the tunes you get your mind and body going.

Seeing Mary’s comment above, I say you should go together, but not necessarily to there, why not take it to the beach, or the park, or even the backyard? Make it easier and less time consuming on you.

I lost about 85 pounds a few years ago. When I started, I had done NO exercise. The trick is starting slowly. Start on a normal stationary bike, then get to spinning. If you have knee issues, then you just have to work around it. Find cardio dvds that don’t require a lot of knee work. Or do what you can, and no more. Build it up very slowly.
